Chiropractic is a vitalistic profession.
This does not mean we are interested in the “supernatural” or religious associations often given to the word vitalism, but simply in the recognition that life is an intelligent process guided by the properties and actions of an intelligent universe.
Why is this important?
Because with this basic and supreme premise, the chiropractor’s sole objective is to remove interference to the normal expression of life. As a result, he or she would never think of doing something that would interfere with that process.
Chiropractors discovered over 100 years ago a basic scientific principle in regards to life and the physical body. It was discovered that the normal expression of life and therefore health, which is almost entirely orchestrated and controlled by the nervous system, could be interfered with by a misalignment of the spine. A common physical manifestation known as vertebral subluxation.
Sharing our vitalistic message does not have to be difficult.
The majority of the world already holds a vitalistic belief system. It is often a subconscious background theory operating behind the muck of mechanistic worldview. The key then, is simply realigning them with a belief system they already have.
Gently guiding them, questioning them, and supporting them back to a view of life and health that is in line with their vitalistic beliefs and nature. In time, and with repetition and effort, the veil begins to fade and their actions become more in line with their vitalistic beliefs.
